Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economic Impact Assessment

Department of Food and Resource Economics invites applicants for an assistant professor position in agricultural economic impact assessment. Preferred starting date is 1st July 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position
Advanced autonomous farming systems and site-specific crop production technologies are introduced and used in agriculture. Examples are field robotics and precision farming technologies in crop farming. Decision support tools, including economic assessment methods, are being developed to quantify and demonstrate socio-economic and environmental impacts. This Assistant Professor position aims to further develop such adaptable Impact Assessment Tools with the aim to model the economic, environmental and social impacts of advanced autonomous technologies. The purpose is to support informed decision-making and promoting beneficial adoption of technologies and farming practices in agriculture. Careful consideration of sustainability objectives is required as part of this development. Moreover, there is a need for contributing to capacity building activities within this area through co-creation and training with key stakeholders.

The Assistant Professor’s duties will primarily include research within these topics within EU and Innovation Fund projects. The Assistant professor is expected to communicate the results in scientific papers and at conferences, and to participate in capacity building activities. To a limited extent, the assistant professor will also be asked to contribute to teaching and other tasks.

Our group and research- and what do we offer?
IFRO carries out basic and applied social science research and has educational and public sector advisory service responsibilities within its thematic fields.  IFRO is also characterized by a high involvement in interdisciplinary research at both international and national levels.

Who are we looking for?
The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics or similar, as well as experience in socio-economic impact assessment and cost-benefit-analyses of technological applications in agriculture. Experience in multidisciplinary project collaborations and research in European context is an advantage.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory, but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.
