Residency in comparative clinical nutrition
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen are looking for a veterinarian to commence a full time (37 hours/week) European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN) residency training program in veterinary clinical and comparative nutrition from September 15th, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Education and job description.
The education will be performed in alignment with the European College of Veterinary Comparative Nutrition ECVCN) guidelines. It is advised to read these guidelines prior to applying for the position. The training and work will consist of supervised clinical rotations and patient care within veterinary comparative and clinical nutrition, including rotations in other specialty services, teaching and supervision of students, and possible external clinical rotations within specific required subspecialties which are not available on site.
As part of the residency program the resident will spend time on clinically relevant research, communication of research as well as preparation for exams. The primary supervisor for the resident is Professor Charlotte Bjørnvad DipECVCN.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position the applicant needs to have graduate and postgraduate qualifications in alignment with the description below.
- Veterinary degree from an EAEVE accredited university
- Authorization to practice in Denmark or ability for achieving this within 3 months after commencing the program
- Documentation of completed companion animal rotating internship at a University or specialist veterinary referral hospital or as an alternative, documentation of working 2 years in specialized companion animal clinical practice.
Further qualifications are considered an advantage
- A strong interest in specializing in the fantastic field of comparative and clinical nutrition
- Ability to handle complex veterinary medical and clinical nutrition patients
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Interest in teaching of veterinary students as well as contributing to continuous professional development and education (companion animal veterinary technicians and veterinarians).
- Being able to work independently in relation to clinical rotations, research projects, and exam preparation.
- Experience with clinical research and scientific writing
Written and spoken Danish or Scandinavian language skills or a wish to learn, as the clinical service includes communication with clients that may not be proficient in English
Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is a full time position corresponding to a 37-hour work week. The position is limited to 4 years and the position will automatically terminate on the 14th of September 2029.

The Section for Companion Animal Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery and Clinical Specialties holds research, clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal diagnostic imaging, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, cardiology, neurology, dentistry, clinical nutrition and exotic pets and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally.
Clinical nutrition is responsible for a clinical nutrition specialty service at the University hospital for Companion animals receiving and managing both first opinion and referral cases. Furthermore, the group teaches veterinary, animal science and post graduate master students www.cacs.ku.dk ) n general, comparative and clinical nutrition in dogs, cats and exotic pets. The clinical nutrition group performs high impact research with a special focus on obesity related disorders and energy metabolism in close cooperation with national and international collaborators.
