Academic Employee at Copenhagen Center for Glycomics, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

The Wandall-group is looking for a highly motivated and independent academic employee at BSc-level to support our efforts in translational glycomedicine to commence 1st of February 2019.

Our research
Our research is primarily focused on glycans in health and disease. We have established organotypic models that allow us to probe the function of glycans as post-translational modifications in tissue homeostasis and use polyomic approaches to identify molecular mechanisms underlying these functions. In keeping, we are keenly interested in the role glycans play in cancer biology and have developed strategies to dissect these mechanisms using advances CRISPR screening tools and NGS. Furthermore, we use various approaches to target glyco-peptide epitopes with monoclonal antibodies in translational cancer projects. The Wandall-group is headed by professor Hans Wandall and includes approximately 15 post-docs, PhD-students, a lab technician and students at masters and bachelor level. The group is highly interdisciplinary and consist of members with backgrounds in medicine, human biology, biochemistry and associated fields and represents a highly diverse and inclusive group in terms of gender, nationality and age.

Your job
Your tasks will include assisting professor Hans Wandall in managing projects on O-glycans in tumours and cancer biology, including designing, executing and planning experiments. Furthermore, you will be part of the glyco-cancer team in the Wandall-group focused on monoclonal antibody production. In addition, you will be expected to be a driving force in cancer-related applications of our organotypic models and cell-systems, including using whole-genome pooled CRISPR screen technology to address issues of glycosylation in cancer biology. The projects will include collaborations with clinical groups and employment therefore requires a background in medicine.

You will be expected to contribute to and support the ongoing research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis when needed; disseminate your expertise to new lab members and support the lab management.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic academic employee with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills
  • You have a BSc in Medicine
  • You have documented experience in CRISPR screening protocols including whole-genome screens and the use of lentiviral vector delivery methods, monoclonal antibody-production, cell culturing including cell biology assays, mass spectrometry and next-generation sequencing.
  • You have an active interest in biomedical research and hands-on experience in laboratory work within cell biology
  • You have proven an ability to envision, plan and execute a research project
  • English and Danish skills at mother-tongue level, written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills
