Postdoc in Porcine Health Management

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 21-month position, to commence 1 April 2025 or after agreement.

The Postdoc will mainly be involved in two research projects. The first project concerns the use of antibiotics for the treatment of umbilical inflammation in piglets. The second project concerns improving diagnostics and investigating preventive measures for Cryptosporidium spp. in calves and Cystoisospora suis in piglets.

Our research
Our research group is working within different areas of Porcine Herd Health Management, including herd diagnostics, prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases in pigs and prudent use of antibiotics .

The group consists of professors, research assistants, post docs, PhD students and residents of ECPHM.

Your job
The Postdoc will be involved in performing field trials and other research activities concerning the use of antibiotics for the treatment of umbilical inflammation in piglets and improving diagnostics and investigating preventive measures for Cryptosporidium spp. in calves and Cystoisospora suis in piglets. The work will include study design, data collection, data analyses and research publication and dissemination. The position will also involve teaching within porcine health management and doing other tasks that fall within the scope of Porcine Health Management research group´s tasks.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Porcine Health Management
  • You are highly experienced performing field studies in pig farms
  • You have an active interest in umbilical infections and coccidiosis in pigs
  • You have an active interest in coccidiosis in calves
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in publication of research in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Experience in research dissemination for different stakeholders.
  • Previous clinical experience with pig and cattle.

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 21 months. The starting date is 1 April 2025 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 40,615 DKK/approx. 5,415 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
