We are seeking a highly qualified researcher with a medical background, in the area of human integrative physiology and cardiometabolic health to join the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen. The position as Professor is half-time (50%) and permanent and intended to be coupled with a half-time position in a clinical environment.

The successful applicant must have a proven research track record in the area of human integrative physiology and cardiometabolic health. Additionally, the applicant must have a degree in medicine. The successful applicant has a strong interest in combining basic and clinical research and in understanding prevention of disease.

The position supports the mission of the Department of Nutrition, Exercise & Sports, which is to carry out research and research-based education at the highest international level. The research of the department is broad and includes basic physiology, human movement science, humanities related to exercise and sport, physical activity for health as well as diet and nutrition. The research and education activities of the department aim at promoting active, healthy, longer, and high-quality lives, as well as ensuring health promotion, disease prevention and treatment for the benefit of the individual and society.

The successful candidate has a strong research background and an excellent publication record in an area relevant to the position. Furthermore, the candidate has a strong knowledge of clinical research and clinical procedures. The candidate is expected to be a main driver in positioning the department as a continued world leading institution in the area of human integrative physiology with a clear aim to further develop interaction between academia and the clinic.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Duties include driving own research, development of the research field, participation in teaching, assessment tasks, grant applications and research management including supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. An important duty is also to head the Department clinical committee and ensuring that the clinical procedures performed at the Department follow all necessary guidelines.

Assessment of applicants will consider their potential for excellence in research and for the ability to engage in and head the clinical environment at the department. The assessment will also consider the ability of the applicants to promote a solid clinical/academic connection including promotion of collaboration between the department and the clinic. Managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding are also of importance.

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates.
