BRIC wishes to recruit a strongly motivated professor within the field of cancer genetics and genomic structural variations. We are seeking excellent candidates with ambitious research visions and a drive to contribute to a diverse and inspiring research environment. The professorship is combined with a consultancy/senior researcher position at the Finsen Laboratory, Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases, Rigshospitalet, Capital Region.

It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the consultancy/senior researcher position. The workplace
BRIC and the Finsen Laboratory is an international center of excellence with the mission to perform cutting-edge basic and translational biomedical research in an open environment that fosters interdisciplinarity and collaboration. Active research areas include many aspects of cancer biology, stem cell biology and neurobiology. The center is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The job
As professor and group leader, you will establish establish your own research group within the area of cancer genetics with emphasis on the role of genomic structural variation in cancer biology. You will lead local as well as international collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects and engage in core center activities such as talent and technology development to advance BRIC’s research environment and culture. The appointment is at a full professor level and is for 5 years with the possibility for an extension.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Performing research at an internationally high level
  • Establishing a research program within patient-derived omics data at an excellent national and international level
  • Performing research-based teaching
  • Managing a strong national and international network
  • Showing research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Sharing knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Contribute to common activities at BRIC and at faculty level including overseeing the Institute Sequencing Core facility (Illumina and ONG platforms)

The professor is also expected to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills and to contribute to develop the research environment and culture at BRIC.

The candidate profile
Your have a track record documenting your research experience as reflected in a strong publication record matching your career stage. You are expected to have a successful record of attraction of funds, leadership and educational experiences, collaboration experiences, and additional capabilities within areas such outreach or technology transfer activities. Six overall criteria apply for Professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, the successful professor must be able to document:

  • An excellent strong track-record in translational research within cancer genetics
  • A strong holistic research program aiming at understanding the molecular pathogenesis of cancer driver mutations with emphasis on genomic structural variations
  • The ability to establish networks and connections to clinical departments
  • Demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Documented international profile as testified by participation in relevant international consortia

Recruitment process
The recruitment process will contain three evaluation steps:

  1. All applicants will be shortlisted after an evaluation of the written application material. Evaluation criteria can be seen here.
  2. The shortlisted candidates will be evaluated in an online interview with the hiring committee.
  3. Selected candidates will be invited for an on-site visit and final evaluation.
