Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Palaeoenvironmental Microbics, Globe Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
The Globe Institute at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint a tenure track assistant professor in palaeoenvironmental microbics that might include themes within ancient ecogenomics, metagenomic bioinformatics and ancient DNA to commence as soon as possible.
We invite applications from candidates with research interests in microbial ancient ecogenomics, metagenomic computational analysis and ancient DNA. We are looking for a skilled computational scientist with an exciting and ambitious research programme focused on pushing the boundaries within microbial ancient genomics and computational metagenomics. Emphasis on human-environment interaction is desirable but not essential.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated/track-record of excellence in research and developing novel computational methods for the large-scale analysis of DNA from geological and archaeological sediments, ice-cores (and other geological deposits etc.). The ideal candidate will also have experience in international collaborative projects, as well as thorough experiences with public outreach and communication. A track-record of securing grant funding will be advantageous.
The tenure track assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- research, including publication/academic dissemination
- research-based teaching
- science communication, incl. active engagement in the institute’s internal and external communication
- participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors
The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

- research experience within the field of the position
The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.
The assistant professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
The position is permanent. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
