We are seeking a highly qualified researcher in the area of exercise and sports sciences to join the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen. The position as Associate Professor is permanent, and closely associated with heading and developing the existing BSc study program in exercise and sport sciences.

The successful applicant must have a proven research track record relevant for sport and exercise. Additionally, the applicant must have profound insight into the exercise and sports area, from both a Danish and international perspective. The successful applicant has a clear view of established as well as novel and future activities involving human movement. These include, but are not limited to, traditional organized sports; private sector activities (i.e. commercial fitness, yoga and mindfulness, sports technology etc.) as well as unorganized sport and exercise.

The position supports the mission of the Department of Nutrition, Exercise & Sports, which is to carry out research and research-based education at the highest international level. The research of the department is broad and includes basic physiology, human movement science, humanities related to exercise and sport, physical activity for health as well as diet and nutrition. The research and education activities of the department aim at promoting active, healthy, longer, and high-quality lives, as well as ensuring health promotion, disease prevention and treatment for the benefit of the individual and society.

The successful candidate has solid teaching and research experience and a convincing publication record within a relevant research area. Furthermore, the candidate must demonstrate knowledge of national and international funding possibilities and provide a convincing funding plan for establishing and facilitating research in this area over the coming years. The candidate is expected to be a main driver in positioning the department as a continued world leading institution in the area of exercise and sport science with a clear aim to further developing interaction with society.

Applicants are required to have documented, independent university level teaching experience (Bachelor and Master levels), documented teaching competencies and must be able to reason and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Furthermore, it will be advantageous if the candidate is familiar with the study programs at the department or similar institutions. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher program for assistant professors is required.

Duties include heading the BSc study program in Exercise & Sports, the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications and research management including supervision and training of research fellows and other staff.

Assessment of applicants will consider their potential for heading and developing the Bachelor study program in exercise and sport. Equally important, the assessment will also consider experience in the field as well as the level of documented, original scientific production at an international level. Managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding are also of importance.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
