Scientific assistant for Copenhagen, Center for textile research (CTR)

At the SAXO Institute, the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, a position as scientific assistant is advertised for occupation from 15 November 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is parttime and the working hours are 19 hours per week. The position is limited to one year with a possibility for two-year prolongation.

The Centre for Textile Research (CTR) was founded by the Danish National Research Foundation in 2005 and today, it is a research centre integrated at the Saxo institute at the University of Copenhagen. Since its inception, the CTR has focused strongly on textile history and archaeology via substantial research programmes, as well as via research training of young scholars and a variety of activities connected with textile history involving universities, museums, and design schools. The CTR organizes seminars, conferences, and courses in textile history on all academic levels.

CTR has 2022-2025 received funding for a new research project Textile Resources in Viking Age Landscapes (TRiVaL) in which we will combine landscape analysis of textile resources with analysis of textiles, textile tools, and contexts investigations to determine the variation, organization, and impact of textile production on Viking Age landscape and settlement structures.

Work assignments
As a scientific assistant, in the late fall of 2022, you will be linked to the research project “Textile Resources in Viking Age Landscapes´” In collaboration with the project manager, you will carry out field work at museums and registration of textile tools and contexts. Subsequently, you must help with data analysis, report writing, presentations and the preparation of scientific articles.

Your profile
We are looking for a committed and skilled archaeologist. Besides archaeology, the candidate is expected to have knowledge in digital methods such as database management, GIS, mapping, and 3D scanning. The candidate will further work with the PI to organize meetings and workshops and other administrative tasks. Good skills in reading and writing in English as well as Scandinavian languages are required.

Employment procedure
After the application deadline, the Head of Department selects, with advice from the appointment committee, which applicants are to be assessed. The Head of Department then sets up an expert assessment committee with a view to assessing the selected applications in relation to the specific position. The selected applicants are informed of the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns the applicant himself before the appointment is finalized.

Salary and conditions of employment
Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The salary range starts at DKK 15,600, EUR 2,096 per month + a 17,1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.

The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have further agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for international researchers employed by the university to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary.
