Niels Bohr Institute
Faculty of Science

University of Copenhagen

The Quantum Optomechanics group at the Niels Bohr Institute specializes in measurement, control and conversion of the motional quantum states. We have pioneered mechanical systems with exceptional coherence, which allow reaching new regimes of sensitivity and efficiency.

We are a part of the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include top-notch optics and cryogenics laboratories and access to a world-class cleanroom.

We are currently seeking to recruit a research assistant in Quantum Optomechanics. The period of employment is 3,5 months until the end of the year.

Inquiries about the position can be made to Prof. Albert Schliesser, albert.schliesser@nbi.ku.dk

The position is open from September 15th 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Job description
The successful applicant will carry out experimental and theoretical work on continuously monitored optomechanical systems, with a particular focus on mechanical parametric phenomena, such as squeezing. The work envisions applications of ultracoherent mechanical resonators in force and environment sensing.

We are looking for candidates within the field(s) of physics or related engineering disciplines.

Applicants should have a background in experimental and theoretical opto- and/or electromechanics.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
