211-0320/25-2K Professor of Computable General Equilibrium Modelling of Agriculture - Food, Climate and Environmental policies at national and global levels
Professor of Computable General Equilibrium Modelling of Agriculture - Food, Climate and Environmental policies at national and global levels
Department of Food and Resource Economics
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
The Department of Food and Resource Economics (“IFRO” or the “Department”) seeks to raise the profile of its research, teaching, and outreach within the area of Computable General Equilibrium Modelling of Agriculture by opening a full professorship in this area. In collaboration with colleagues at IFRO and elsewhere, the professor will conduct research in CGE modelling and its applications concerning the agriculture sector, covering agricultural policy, food security, international agricultural trade and global markets, and climate and environmental policies and regulations, as well as the interactions across these dimensions. Relevant interdisciplinary work related to agriculture can also be part of the profile of the professorship. As the above-mentioned policy issues often have effects across multiple scales (e.g. global, national and regional/local scales), the opening of the full professorship aims to meet the growing demand on CGE model results from assessments of regional, national and global policies, including anticipated changes in agricultural, environmental, and climate policies and their wider economic impacts.
The professor is expected to maintain a significant record of publication at the highest level, to encourage research achievement, and to nurture the research culture within the research group surrounding the professorship. Fund raising through cooperations within internal and external networks from multiple sources, external research collaboration, and active participation in research networks will be a specific priority for the professor in order to enhance and sustain the development of departmental research activities. IFRO will support the professor in this task. The professor is expected to disseminate his/her research to multiple stakeholders outside of the university (including policy makers, NGOs, and industries) and to pursue wider societal impacts. In this connection, contributions to IFRO’s public advisory work may be expected.
The professor is expected to teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations. More specifically, the professor is expected to contribute to current research-based teaching in areas such as agricultural policy, international trade, and trade and climate policy models at MSc level. Further development of interdisciplinary modelling teaching at MSc and PhD levels, supervisions of students in relevant degree programs, and participation in pedagogical training and development of junior researchers are also foreseen.
Finally, the professor is expected to contribute broadly to the development of the academic environment of the department, including taking on duties of common good character and fulfilling other relevant tasks requested by IFRO.
Successful candidates to this position are expected to have an academic background within economics or agricultural economics, with strong quantitative economics skills particularly in CGE model development and applications (including linkages to other relevant modeling tools), with relevant research experiences in areas such as agricultural policy, international agricultural trade, food security, climate and environmental policies in agriculture. Research expertise on the interactions across the aforementioned areas is desirable. We expect applicants to possess documented theoretical and empirical research competence of a high international standard within CGE modelling. Demonstrated research management experience in leading research projects and formal training in research leadership will also be considered.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies, and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Ideally, these teaching experiences, particularly those at MSc and PhD levels, should be connected to the applicants’ own research areas. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Teaching obligations outside the core topics may occur.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.

The Department of Food and Resource Economics is uniquely placed in the enviable role of undertaking research, education and public-sector services of international excellence in these fields and with significant impact in the scientific community, and on policy and practice.
