The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence March 1st 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document original scientific work at the highest international level and high ambitions in teaching development within the areas of peptide ligand discovery, biochemical and biophysical characterisation of peptides and proteins, as well as investigations of protein folding.

The associate professor is expected to contribute to strengthening interdisciplinary research and education at the Department, with focus on biopharmaceutical studies of peptide ligands that target protein function.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination to the scientific community and to the general public
  • Develop, organize, and conduct research-based teaching, including associated examination, in relevant fields within the Department’s education activities
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Engagement in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and broadly towards academia, the clinic, and industry
  • Attracting external funding
  • Sharing of knowledge with the surrounding society
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as assistant professor, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
 

Desired qualifications:

  1. Strong documented scientific track record in the discovery of bioactive peptides
  2. Strong documented scientific track record of studies in protein/peptide folding and design
  3. Experience with biophysical protein characterisation, in vitro and cell-based assays
  4. Track record in attracting external funding
  5. Track record in innovation
  6. Experience in development and conduction of research-based teaching

Applicants already having sustainability integrated in all aspects of their research and teaching, or a clear plan for doing so, will have preference.


Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.  All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
