Associate Professor of Infection Immunology (25%)
Department of Immunology and Microbiology
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Immunology and Microbiology (ISIM) to commence as soon as possible. The position is permanent and a 25% position.
Information on the Department can be found at: https://sund.ku.dk/.
Job description
When considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of human viral infections and mucosal immunology. The applicants are expected to do part of their research in low-middle income countries (LMICs), i.e., Sub-Saharan Africa, and applicants with documented established active research activities in LMICs will therefore be preferred. The associate professor position will bridge research from LMICs with that of our department, expanding our understanding of mucosal immunity in distinct environments. We expect the applicants to have active or to establish research activities in LMICs focused on human tissue immunology that will leverage the opportunity to engage with local faculty and ultimately pursue a new line of research that will complement existing activities at ISIM.
The associate professor will also undertake teaching responsibilities at ISIM for medical students and is expected to do lecture series in relevant topics for the Master’s course in immunology.
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments

- Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
- Research-based teaching
The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
