The University seeks to appoint a part-time (18.5 hours per week) professor within Translational Eye Research at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible.
At the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology we work in a dynamic and commited academic community of research, education, innovation, and outreach within the Pharmaceutical Sciences bridging Health Science and Life Science. We value interdisciplinary research and education, development of individual competences, and finding solutions to todays and tomorrows challenges in society.
In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document original scientific work at high international level and high ambitions in teaching development within the area of translational eye research and translational pharmacology.
The professor is expected to strengthen the research and education at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology and facilitate research across complementary and synergistic research disciplines, with focus on translational eye research including cellular and translational models to study retinal neurodegeneration.
The applicant should therefore have a strong research background in translational eye research, for details see “Desired qualifications”. Additionally, a proven track-record of strategic education development and leadership is required.
The professor is expected to be a committed and responsible member of our academic community providing research, education, innovation, and outreach activities to the society. The professor and group members are expected to be active in interdisciplinary clusters, that provide a departmental framework for scientific collaboration at high international level, and facilitate an inspiring scientific working environment.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination of results to the scientific community and to the general public
- Develop, organize, and conduct research-based teaching, including associated examination, in relevant fields within the department’s educations
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers
- Engage in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and towards academia, the clinic, and industry in general
- Being a committed and dedicated member of the Department’s academic community
- Obligation to share knowledge with society, e.g. participation in public debate
- Academic assessments

The applicant must be able to document:
- Original academic production at high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline within: research, teaching, innovation, and outreach
- Leadership and/or management functions, e.g. engagement in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
- Development, organisation, and conduction of research-based teaching as well as supervision of students
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
(i) Demonstrate a strong scientific track record in cellular and translational models to study retinal neurodegeneration as well as knowledge of and interest in establishing models and collaborations to evaluate side effects and efficacy of current treatments to prevent retinal neurodegeneration
(ii) Ability to manage research projects, in particular projects bridging basic research and the clinic
(iii) Capacity to instigate and participate in collaborative science at the international level involving scientists across scientific disciplines and sectors, including the pharmaceutical industry and clinical departments
(iv) Documented expertise in development of courses and teaching in pharmacotherapy and translational pharmacology
Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
