Professor within Blended Learning and Engagement in Education

The University seeks to appoint a professor within Blended Learning and Engagement in Education to the Department of Biomedical Sciences to commence as soon as possible. The position will be coupled to a position as leader of the Centre for Online and Blended Learning (COBL) at the University of Copenhagen, Campusadministration North and will be a part-time position, 7.4 hours per week. The two positions together constitute a full-time position. It is therefore a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the COBL position. The research at the Department of Biomedical Sciences aims at generating new knowledge that can be used in the prevention and treatment of illnesses such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and lung as well as kidney and intestinal tract illnesses. The researchers at the Department of Biomedical Sciences carry out research-based, clinically relevant undergraduate teaching and supervision for students of Medicine, Odontology, Public Health Sciences, Human Biology, Molecular Biomedicine, Medicine & Technology, Health & Informatics and/or Quantitative Biology & Disease Modeling at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Job description
The post entails an obligation to carry out research, supervise undergraduate students and younger researchers at graduate and postgraduate level, provide teaching and publish/communicate scientific findings, as well as handle administrative tasks.

Furthermore, it involves an obligation to handle research management to the extent appropriate for the tasks and requirements of the department. The distribution between the different tasks may vary periodically.

The professorship is particularly directed towards strengthening the implementation of modern technologies in educational and teaching activities to support the Department’s strategy to facilitate the development of pedagogical and didactical competencies of teachers at the Department. Furthermore, the applicant is required to facilitate knowledge sharing between teachers at the Department and to develop an educational program for talented graduate and postgraduate researchers.

It is an additional requirement that the applicant has adequate academic qualifications to provide research-based teaching at the highest international level. The appointee will participate in the Department’s undergraduate education programmes and participate in and develop postgraduate training.

The professor’s duties will primarily consist of:

  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Educational leadership, including guidance and supervision of research-based teaching
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate and academic assessments

Required qualifications
The successful applicant should be able to:

  • Document a high degree of original academic production and attract research funding at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline within one of the research themes at the Department of Biomedical Sciences
  • Develop research-based teaching at the highest international level with the use of comprehensive learning design and a focus on student-centred learning, digitalisation and AI
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Engage in innovative teaching development and provide new solutions with societal impact.

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

The applicant should have collaborative and leadership competencies combined with a strong wish to act as a driving force in integration of educational competence development across study programs at the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2025). The position is part-time, 7,4 hours per week.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.
