The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a professor position in financial mathematics and data science. The position is open from 1 June 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, subject to negotiation.

We are looking for applicants who do research in financial mathematics and data science. The successful candidate must be an internationally highly recognized researcher, and the research must have excellence status in the applicant's area of specialization with ground-breaking contributions.

Applicants are expected to have strong university level teaching credentials with documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include furthering the applicant’s own research, development of the field, research assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department. Teaching obligations may include activities with external partners in our continued professional education programme for industry.

The Department is a leading mathematics institution with a vibrant and friendly international research environment that spans several areas of pure and applied mathematics. It has strong groups in, e.g., statistics, mathematical biology, insurance mathematics and quantum information theory. The department teaches a large portfolio of undergraduate and graduate courses both for students in the mathematical sciences and for students of other subjects at the Faculty of Science. Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager, on the advice of the Hiring Committee, selects applicants for assessment by an Assessment Committee. Note that being on the short-list is not equivalent to being assessed qualified for the position. Short-listed candidate may potentially be deemed “not qualified” by the Assessment Committee. A subset of the qualified short-listed candidates will be selected for a formal interview by the Hiring Committee.
