Postdoc researcher position on bird comparative genomics
Department of Biology
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
A postdoc researcher position on bird comparative genomics study will be open in Department of Biology at University of Copenhagen from January 1st 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will last for three years.
Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG)
The research group is led by Prof. Guojie Zhang with the research focus on biodiversity genomics. The research group has developed many large-scale genomics studies to understand the evolutionary process and mechanisms for speciation and adaptation for broad spectrum of animal taxa. The group has good international environment and consists of researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including bioinformatics, genomics, evolution, developmental biologist, and ecology. More detail about the research group can be found from http://zhanggjlab.org/
CBG has initiated several large-scale phylogenomics projects in the last few years. The Bird Genome 10K project (b10k.genomics.cn) is one of the most prominent international genomics projects and aims to produce the reference genomes for 10,000 bird species. We recently collected the reference genomes for over 300 bird species. One of the main research topics in B10K project is on the evolution of regulatory elements and their roles on the development of bird phenotypic diversity. The main tasks for this position including performing experiment for collecting the functional genomic data, developing computational tools for annotate the functional genomic elements, and investigating the evolution of the regulatory elements. Other tasks will also involve the coordination for sample collection, genomic sequencing and processing, manuscript writing, and progress report preparation. The candidate will also commit part of the time for teaching in course relevant to the research program.
We can offer you a highly ambitious yet friendly working environment where the cross-disciplinary research is conducted. The CBG often establishes collaboration with the top labs in the relevant fields to strengthen the research program. Therefore, the candidate will be exposed to international collaboration and should have the ability to coordinate the collaboration project.
