Postdoc within Gut microbiome research

Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen, is recognized for excellence in food research, food science education, and industry collaboration. It covers all disciplines of food science from raw materials to processing and consumption, and is organized in four sections, one of which is the section for “Food Microbiology and Fermentation”, where the position is placed. Gut microbiome research is a strong focus area and during the last 5 years the viruses residing in the gastrointestinal tract (bacteriophages as well as archaeal and eukaryotic viruses – also termed the gut virome) and their interactions with their microbiological hosts as well as the mammalian host has become a particular research focus. The postdoc’s duties will include research within gut microbiome research with a strong focus on virome characterization as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.

The position is open from 1st December 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter for 3 years with possibility for prolongation of the contract.

Preferred qualifications
The preferred candidate holds a PhD within microbiology or related research fields and has strong experience within gut microbiome research. The project will combine wet-lab work with bioinformatics and the ideal candidate will have strong experience with both. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate has strong qualifications within several of the following areas:

  • High throughput sequencing
  • Multivariate data analysis/data integration
  • Bacteriophages
  • Virome characterization of complex environments

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently up to DKK 437.843 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 74.871). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
