Research assistant in science education

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent research assistant to join the Section for Science and Mathematics Education Research and Teaching (SMART). The expected start date is 1 May, 2019.
 
Our research 
The section pursues research into the teaching, learning and assessment of scientific and mathematical knowledge and competences at all educational levels. The section also participates in several development projects at the University of Copenhagen and externally within a wide variety of sectors. It is a hallmark of our research to unite strong fundamental and applied research with high impact in society.

Your job 
We are looking for a person who can assist and take part in our research and development projects. You will have great opportunities to advance you basic research skills. If you are considering pursuing a PhD position in the field, this position can be an excellent preparation. 
You will be involved in particular in the project ‘Improving Quality of Laboratory Learning at University Level’ https://iqlab.sites.ku.dk/project-description/ which will account for approximately half of your workload per year. 
 
Based on your particular skills and interests, we will consider your specific work portfolio once you start. 
 
Your tasks will include 
Arranging and systematizing results of literature database searches in Excel or comparable software.  
Organizing, transcribing (and possibly aiding in the analysis of) recorded empirical data (audio and video).  
Producing different types of written products in Danish and English – e.g. contributing to reports or papers.  
Organizing meetings and taking minutes 
 
Assisting the organization of research seminars – i.e. keeping membership lists updated, sending out information to members, preparing rooms for seminars, and making sure the practical/technical aspects run smoothly. 
 
Your profile 
 
You have either
  • a master’s degree in the natural sciences and some experiences with investigating real world practices or people – e.g. through empirical investigations during your education 
         or
  • a master’s degree in the social sciences or humanities and some experiences with educational research – preferably related to teaching or learning within the technical or natural science subjects 
 
Beyond this, you must have the following qualifications: 
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 
Excellent writing skills in Danish and English 
 
Preferably you also have the following qualifications: 
Familiarity with science education research  
Experience with arranging data in spreadsheet software

The position is open from May 1st, 2019. The employment as research assistant is a full-time position for 2 years.

Terms of employment 
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  
The starting salary is currently up to DKK 413.618 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 70.728). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
