147041 Three Novo Nordisk Foundation Professorships in Fetal and Paediatric Surgery

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded three professorships in paediatric surgery within the fields: heart disease, translational reconstruction techniques and fetal therapy and surgery. See the specific announcements below.
 
 
147042 Clinical Professor of Cardiac Surgery with special focus on Treatment of Children with Congenital Heart Diseases (Fixed-term, 5 years) 
 
 
The University seeks to appoint a clinical professor Cardiac Surgery with special focus on Treatment of Children with Congenital Heart Diseases to the Department of Clinical Medicine to commence as soon as possible. The externally funded professorship is combined with a clinical position at the Heart Centre, Rigshospitalet 
 
In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level which supports the feasibility of a visionary and innovative research plan to develop the area of Cardiac Surgery with special focus on Treatment of Children with Congenital Heart Diseases.
 
It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the clinical position. In order to be considered the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the clinical position. This applies also to applicants who are already employed as clinical position at the Hospital. The University seeks to appoint a clinical professor with special focus on Foetal Therapy and Surgery to the Department of Clinical Medicine to commence as soon as possible. The externally funded professorship is combined with a clinical position at the Juliane Marie Centre, Rigshospitalet.
 
In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level which supports the feasibility of a visionary and innovative research plan to develop the area of Foetal Therapy and Surgery.
 
It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the clinical position. The University seeks to appoint a clinical professor with special focus on Paediatric Surgery with special focus on Translational Reconstruction Techniques to the Department of Clinical Medicine to commence as soon as possible. The externally funded professorship is combined with a clinical position at the Abdominal Centre, Rigshospitalet.
 
In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level which supports the feasibility of a visionary and innovative research plan to develop the area of Paediatric Surgery with special focus on Translational Reconstruction Techniques.
 
It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the clinical position. Job descriptions
 
The professors' duties will primarily consist of: 
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination 
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers 
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate 
  • Academic assessments  
Required qualifications  
 
The successful applicants should be able to: 
  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Provide research-based teaching
  • A visionary and innovative research plan 
 
The professors are also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills. 
 
Terms of employment  
For the professorships, the appointees will receive a pensionable annual salary of DKK 180.030,48 (1 April 2017 level).  
 
This is covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation as well as an annual budget of DKK 3.8m for expenses such as PhD students, technical assistance, post.doc etc. 
 
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013. 
 
The position as consultant is covered by the hospital.
