We are looking for highly motivated, excellent candidates with a master’s degree in physics or related fields, to advance our research in the field of quantum optomechanics.
The Quantum Optomechanics group at the Niels Bohr Institute has pioneered a new approach to engineer mechanical systems of unprecedented coherence, based on soft clamping in phononic crystals. We now seek support in applying this new generation of devices for quantum information processing and networking. The research is embedded in the newly established Center of Excellence “Hybrid Quantum Networks Hy-Q,” whose mission is to merge disparate quantum system into large scale quantum networks. The long-term perspective of the research is to enable large scale processing of quantum information over global distances.
The PhD student will implement new concepts for mechanical memories and transducers. Knowledge and experience in quantum optomechanics, phononics and photonics is a plus, but not a necessity. Enthusiasm to acquire, apply and advance scientific skills within a dynamic, hard-working and international team is key.
Employment date is June 1 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The PhD position is for a 3-year period and the key tasks as a PhD student at Science are:
• To manage and carry through your research project
• Attend PhD courses
• Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
• Teach and disseminate your research
• To stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad
• Work for the department
Applicants should have an MSc degree in physics or related fields with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 322,642 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 55,172). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
