Laboratory Manager - Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research

We are seeking a Laboratory Manager who will be responsible for coordinating and handling a broad spectrum of laboratory-related tasks to ensure optimal use of research facilities, safety, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. You will interact closely with Group Leaders, Laboratory Technicians and laboratory users to coordinate activities relating to the laboratories. Together with your colleagues in CBMR’s lab management team, you will play an instrumental role in facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization. Starting date is as soon as possible.

Your tasks will include:

  • Introduce, instruct, and train new laboratory users (Good Laboratory Practices, safety and other required practices)
  • Ensure efficient organization and use of laboratory space and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with safety laws and legal standards
  • Organize and assist in procurement, installation, and maintenance of equipment, and in the planning of laboratory renovations
  • Handle day-to-day procurement of consumables and invoices
  • Identify and implement optimal laboratory management solutions including electronic booking systems, ELN, equipment and inventory databases, etc.
  • Actively contribute to the Center’s effort to make the laboratories more sustainable through the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF).
  • Coordinate, build, and improve common laboratory tasks and workflows
  • Ensure a good working environment in the laboratory

Your profile
Your professional qualifications:

  • Educational background as either a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory Technician, or an MSc within biology, biochemistry or similar
  • 5+ years of experience with laboratory work
  • Solid experience in setting up, optimizing, and organizing laboratory facilities
  • Experience with administrative aspects of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and occupational health and safety regulations
  • Good IT skills – especially within the use of Microsoft Office 365 programs
  • Pro-active, solution-oriented and able to handle many different tasks at the same time
  • The ability to work structured and organized and to prioritize own tasks
  • Excellent collaboration skills and good at communicating clearly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Danish
  • Has knowledge of LEAF
  • Experience in the setup and maintenance of ELNs is a plus
  • A team player with a service-minded “can-do” attitude
  • Positive and open-minded

Terms of salary and employment
Your employment will be at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen. The position is a full-time (37 hours per week) and permanent position and is open for appointment as soon as possible.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) if the candidate has background as a MSc. Depending on experience and qualifications, the employment will be as either Academic Research Officer or Research Consultant.
If the candidate has a background as a Laboratory Technician, employment will be in accordance with The Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and its officers in the state. Dansk Laborantforening (Salary Group 5) or The Circular between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Danske Bioanalytikere (LC/CO10), if the candidate has a background as a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist.

Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
