Metabolomics Data Scientist

Are you an expert in metabolomics and data analysis that would be excited about supporting cutting-edge research within the fields of nutrition, microbiome and cardiometabolic health? We are looking for a dedicated candidate with high computational expertise that would be thrilled to maintain and develop our liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based metabolomics infrastructure from a data point of view and engage with a collaborative, dynamic and ambitious research team.

The position is available from 15th of January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.   

The position and responsibilities

The metabolomics data scientist’s duties will primarily include development of our LC-MS-based metabolomics data and annotation pipelines. This includes maintenance and development of LC-MS data pipelines, maintenance of data infrastructure, and standard operating procedures and workflows, as well as support of omics-analyses in close collaboration with colleagues. The metabolomics data scientist is also expected to contribute to training students and staff in metabolomics data analyses.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for an experienced candidate that thrives in an academic environment, that finds joy in helping others and satisfaction in delivering smooth LC-MS pipelines, making sure researchers obtain high-quality metabolomics data and results. 

The ideal candidate is a team player with a very strong drive and several years of experience in metabolomics data analysis.

Requirements, qualifications, and evaluation criteria
We expect you to have:

• A PhD degree or at least three years of experience in metabolomics or related discipline.
• In-depth knowledge and extensive experience with liquid chromatography-based metabolomics data analyses and annotation
• Experience and a proven track record of developing or contributing to mass-spectrometry based software
• Extensive experience in the R programming language, Shiny, Linux and docker
• Experience with data management and FAIR data principles
• Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
• Prior teaching experience in metabolomics is an advantage
• Prior wet-lab experience in metabolomics is an advantage

The research environment

You will be part of the Nutrition, Microbiome and Metabolomics Research Group headed by Associate Professor Henrik Munch Roager at Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen. We offer a dynamic, sociable, collaborative, and international environment with several exiting ongoing projects. The group conducts metabolomics and cohort- and intervention studies concerning nutrition, microbiome and health.

The research group is also affiliated to the Copenhagen Gut Microbiome Hub, which brings together the region’s leading scientists, researchers and industry professionals dedicated to leverage the gut microbiome to improve health.

Terms of salary and employment
The appointment as Metabolomics Data Scientist is positioned as Special Consultant and is a full-time position until December 31st, 2028. The start date is 15th of January, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Working hours will be 37 hours per week on average. 

Employment will be in accordance with The Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Furthermore there is a possibility to negotiate supplements based on qualifications and experience.
