Teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Cardiology

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a full-time position as a teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Cardiology, starting from 1 November 2026, or as soon as possible after. The position will be part of the veterinary diagnostic imaging and cardiology group of the Diagnostic imaging, Surgery and Clinical Specialties.

The position is focused on planning and executing clinical teaching within companion animal cardiology. The teaching does not require new research.

About the Cardiology Group
Companion animal cardiology is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of veterinary education in Denmark. The companion animal cardiology referral service is led by a Danish specialist in companion animal cardiology and consists of faculty and clinicians. Companion Animal Cardiology is part of The University Hospital for Companion Animals, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.  The group runs a high throughput clinical referral service, seeing companion animal patients (dogs and cats) forming the basis for clinical teaching of veterinary and postgraduate master students (www.cacs.ku.dk). The cardiology service is equipped with state-of-the-art echocardiography systems (including 3D and strain imaging), Holter monitoring, and facilities for interventional cardiology procedures.

We provide primary care and referral services, continuous professional education seminars for fellow veterinarians in primary practice and contribute to an international postgraduate master’s program within Companion Animal Clinical Sciences (www.cacs.ku.dk).

The cardiology group has collaborative research with national and international research groups within feline genetics, late-stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hemostasis in feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and canine angiostrongylosis, as well as biomarkers in feline and canine heart diseases among.

About the Position
The teaching assistant professor will be mainly responsible for teaching veterinary students and post-graduate master’s students in companion animal cardiology. In addition to clinical duties in the cardiology referral service, the teaching assistant professor will be interacting with and assisting faculty in the development of new teaching strategies. In addition, the teaching assistant professor will assist faculty in supervising younger clinicians in clinical cardiology training. For the right candidate, participation in research projects, publications and public outreach will be possible.

Required qualifications

• The applicant must hold a DVM with a license to practice in Denmark
• Documented high-level post-graduate clinical continuing education within companion animal cardiology, diplomate, ACVIM or ECVIM-Cardiology an advantage.
• Documented undergraduate and post-graduate clinical teaching experience within companion animal cardiology
• Ability to complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“universitetspædagogikum”)
• Enterprising and possessing good interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate with pet owners in Danish/Scandinavian and English

Place of employment
The place of employment is at Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The start date is 1 November 2026, or after agreement. The position is a permanent position, and the average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The Department ensures that the teaching assistant professor will undergo evaluation to become teaching associate professor at least 6 months prior to the end of 6 years of employment at the latest.
