Academic Research Staff in computational biology at Weischenfeldt Group

We are offering a short-term Academic Research Staff position in Computational Biology commencing September 1st, 2026

Our group and research
The Weischenfeldt lab is working on delineating the mutational mechanisms and clonal evolution of cancer. We use a wide range of computational and experimental approaches including WGS, single-cell, and long-read sequencing together with chromatin conformation techniques to understand the germline contribute and how cancers mutate and evolve, which we are applying to cancer patient material in close collaboration with clinical colleagues at the hospital.

Project description
The project involves statistical genetics analyses of germline variations and the interplay with somatic mutations in cancer genomes. The successful candidate will work with large-scale genomic datasets, applying and developing statistical and computational methods to investigate how inherited genetic variation shapes the acquisition and selection of somatic mutations across tumor types.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement statistical genetics analyses (e.g., association studies, variant annotation, mutational signature analysis) on germline and somatic genomic data
• Apply computational pipelines for large-scale sequencing data processing
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of geneticists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians
• Contribute to manuscript preparation and present findings at lab meetings and conferences

Profile
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• You have a Master’s degree or similar in computational biology, bioinformatics or related areas
• Knowledge and experience with statistical genetics
• Extensive experience with germline genetics and cancer genomics
• Good English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Experience with tumour evolution
• The grade point average achieved
• Previous publications
• Relevant work experience 
• Curious mind-set with a strong interest in germline genetics and cancer genomics

Place of employment

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours.

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 30,264 DKK /approx. 4,048 EUR (August 2026- level) plus pension. You can read more about salary range in the state on this site.

Starting date: September 1st or after agreement.

Duration: 4 months with the possibility of extension
