Senior Researcher in Computational Biodiscovery at Globe Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
The University seeks to appoint a highly motivated and dynamic senior researcher to the section of Hologenomics at Globe institute to commence as soon as possible. The interdisciplinary candidate will be responsible for the daily administration the local server infrastructure Mjolnir including maintenance and training of new users among other tasks. The candidate is also expected to have a special focus on developing new teaching courses and develop tools and methods to increase the knowledge within phage informatics. Your job description
Your duties will be split between administering our computational infrastructure Mjolnir, teaching within the subjects of bioinformatics, and doing independent research within phage informatics. You will be supporting the Institute’s leadership in developing the strategic direction of the research portfolio involving its own computational infrastructure and will be responsible for the administration of Globe’s Mjolnir computational infrastructure and drive its expansion. You will oversee the computational User Experience (UX) including UX evaluation, user support, and develop advanced knowledge-sharing documentation for Mjolnir and share it with the Institute’s PIs and their research groups through technical workshops.
The senior researcher’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Support the Institute’s leadership in developing the strategic direction of research portfolio involving own computational infrastructure.
- Coordinate the administration of Globe’s Mjolnir computational infrastructure and drive its
expansion - Develop advanced knowledge-sharing documentation for Mjolnir and share it with the
Institute’s PIs and their research groups through technical workshops. - Oversee the computational User Experience (UX) including UX evaluation, user support,
documentation, and training - Representing the Institute in intra-departmental Educational Committees.
- Teaching, course responsibilities, and developing new courses in bioinformatics, including
phage informatics. - Occasional contributions to the development of study lines involving bioinformatics, data
science, and computational infrastructure at the faculty. - Contribute to the Institute’s social impact and international presence through educational,
outreach and collaboration with national and international private and public organizations
including collaboration with partners from developing countries. - Contribute to our research program in bacteriophages by developing computational tools and methods to increase the knowledge of phage informatics.

Besides the six criteria defined by the university, you are also expected to have the following:
Essential experience and skills
- Ph.D. degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those
obtained by holding a position as Senior Researcher or Associate Professor - Have significant experience working administratively in a supercomputer/shared cluster
environment, including experience working with Moab/Torque/Slurm or similar - Have documented experience with bioinformatics concepts and tools
- Have extensive national and international research-based teaching experience in a University
environment including examinations, and supervision of student's thesis work
Desirable experience and skills:
- Have demonstrated the ability to communicate his/her scientific work in writing and in oral presentations
- Have experience in data governance and bioinformatics analysis at international largescale
genome projects - Experience with management and participation in departmental educational fora
- Curious mind-set with the drive to work out of the box
As the major focus of this position is to build and develop computational infrastructure and support its users in a professional setting, the senior researcher is also required to possess excellent interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
