211-1819/24-2I Postdoc in Advanced Microscope Image Analysis of Food Texture

Postdoc in Advanced Microscope Image Analysis of Food Texture
Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen

The Image Section invites applicants for an 18-month postdoctoral research fellowship with an expected starting date of 1 September 2024. Your duties will include research within Image Analysis and Data Science as well as minor teaching duties to support your career development. The image section is an active member of many thriving interdisciplinary communities including the Center for Quantification of Imaging Data from MAX IV,  Danish Bioimaging, and Euro Bioimaging, and you will be encouraged to network nationally and internationally. The image section prioritizes teamwork and room for personal development in a good social environment, and we focus on fundamental understanding of methods and the ability to apply them to real-world problems.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary project combining food microstructure with data science and is a collaborative effort with SDU FOODLAB at SDU Biotechnology, Department of Green Technology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense. The project will investigate microstructures in food matrices using different advanced optical microscopy techniques to image protein and fat microstructures and their changes over time upon different processing conditions such as enzymatic, physicochemical, or heat. The project aims to adapt advanced optical microscopy for studying food to understand the microstructural origin of food texture and to develop better quantitative tools for describing macromolecular network assemblies in food systems. Partners at SDU will produce microscopy images and you will transfer state-of-the-art image descriptors to the field of food and develop novel descriptors based on, e.g., topological data analysis and machine learning.

We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background. Further information on the Department can be found at https://di.ku.dk/english/.  Inquiries about the position can be made to Professor Jon Sporring, sporring@di.ku.dk.
