Postdoc of Food Microbiology and Fermentation
Department of Food Science, Section for Food Microbiology, Gut Health and Fermentation invites applicants for a 30 months’ Post Doc position with focus on detailed characterization and possible applications of Philemon, a filamentous phage infecting Gram-positive host Propionibacterium freudenreichii. The project is part of the research project “Philemon: Unlocking the potential of filamentous phage targeting a Gram-positive host”, which is financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF).
Start date is (expected to be) 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within phage-host interactions between Philemon and P. freudenreichii, genetic modification of Philemon for development of genetic tools with a final goal of adapting phage display technology to the Philemon-P. freudenreichii pair. The post may include performance of other duties as well as teaching.
The applicant is expected to have solid, documented experience within several of the following areas: Cultivation and genotypic and phenotypic characterization of bacteria and bacteriophages; Experience in sequencing, genome assembly and bioinformatics analyses for detailed characterization of the native and genetically modified microbes; Experience in methods associated with phage-host interaction studies. In addition, experience working with either Propionibacterium freudenreichii or related, high G+C% content bacteria, experience with filamentous phages in general and particularly experience in phage display technologies will be considered an advantage.
