Postdoc of physics of bacteriophages
We are seeking a talented, highly motivated, and creative scientist to investigate questions at the interface between physics and biology, with a focus on bacteriophage replication and its dependence on host physiology. The position is part of the project “Universal Growth Laws of Viruses of Bacteria”, led by Associate Professor Namiko Mitarai and funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation NERD Programme.
We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated experience in both (i) mathematical and/or computational modelling of bacteriophage systems, and (ii) experimental research on bacteria and / or bacteriophages including competence with genetic tools and bacterial physiology. The ideal candidate enjoys working in an interdisciplinary environment where theoretical and experimental ideas are actively exchanged and developed into new research directions.
The research group is part of the Center for Models of Life (https://nbi.ku.dk/english/research/biocomplexity/cmol/) in the Biocomplexity Section at the Niels Bohr Institute. We study complex phenomena in physics and biology and maintain close collaborations with researchers in the Department of Biology at the University of Copenhagen. The postdoc will also have opportunities to interact with and co-supervise Master’s and PhD students, providing valuable experience in mentoring and teaching.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within theoretical and experimental physics and biology of bacteria and bacteriophages as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.
Further information on the Department is linked at https://nbi.ku.dk/english/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Associate Professor Namiko Mitarai (mitarai@nbi.ku.dk).
