Programme Coordinator for the Copenhagen Bioscience PhD programme (maternity cover)  
 
University of Copenhagen and Technical University of Denmark seek on behalf of the Novo Nordisk  
Foundation research center cluster a maternity cover for our programme coordinator to the Copenhagen Bioscience PhD programme.  
 
The Copenhagen Bioscience PhD programme offers talented international students an opportunity to launch their careers in the vibrant environment of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Center Cluster. Sixteen students are being recruited annually in the period 2016-2018 through the Programme for enrolment in August-September the same year. The four-year programme is divided into a pre-doctoral year with common courses, followed by three years of PhD training at one of the four Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers.  
 
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Center Cluster consists of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Danish Stem Cell Center (at University of Copenhagen), the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (at University of Copenhagen), the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (at Technical University of Denmark) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (at University of Copenhagen).  
 
The Programme Coordinator works closely with the Programme’s academic Steering Committee, the PhD coordinators and administrations at all four Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers, and with the administrative departments at the universities and at the Novo Nordisk Foundation.  
 
The Programme Coordinator reports to the Head of Administration and Finance at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.  
 
Main duties  
  • Maintain the ongoing collaboration and communication between the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Center Cluster, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and the Graduate Schools and research programmes at the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark  
  • Coordinate the recruitment (including 2-3 day interview visit for approx. 40 candidates) of the Programme’s research assistants (pre-doc students), in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the universities  
  • Support the enrolment of the Programme’s PhD students at the universities in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers and the universities  
  • Coordinate planning and running of the pre-doc year curriculum and courses in collaboration with Group Leaders at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers  
  • Monitor progress of pre-doc and PhD students in the Programme  
  • Plan and administer retreats and other events, and create and maintain a calendar with seminars, meetings and events  
  • Maintain the programme website and social media, and promote the Programme via press and media  
  • Prepare agenda, document discussions and benchmark progress for regular Steering Committee meetings regarding planning of teaching and training activities for the Programme’s pre-doc and PhD students  
  • Coordinate evaluation of the Programme  
  • Secretary of the Steering Committee  
Detailed Description of Skills Required  
  • The successful candidate should have a PhD in health, natural or technical sciences, and preferably postdoctoral experience from excellent laboratories in an academic or industrial environment.  
  • The Programme Coordinator will work directly with the Steering Committee and the Research Center administrations, and therefore the ability to adapt to a flexible working pattern will be required.  
  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated and capable of coordinating complex logistic operations and events and motivating others to meet challenging deadlines.  
  • Good scientific publication or technology/methodology development record, plus proven and successful experience from laboratories/institutions of high scientific standard.  
  • Excellent ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications (general and scientific/academic).  
  • Experience with planning and running research-based PhD courses.  
  • The successful candidate should preferably have experience with website editing (WordPress), social media management, and media promotion of academic activities.  
  • Innovative, analytical and goal oriented.  
Employment Conditions  
The maternity cover for the Programme Coordinator will be temporarily employed from 1 October 2017 or 1 November 2017 to 31 October 2018.  
 
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). To the salary is added a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experiences and qualifications. The ability to perform the job will be the primary consideration, regardless of the personal background and status.  
 
Working hours are 37 hours per week.
