Laboratory Technician to DanStem

The Danish Stem Cell Center (DanStem) at Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Laboratory technician to join the Ober lab starting on July 1, 2017 or upon agreement.  
 
DanStem comprises of two sections: The Novo Nordisk Foundation Section for Basic Stem Cell Biology, where we address basic research questions in stem cell and developmental biology (BasicStem). The second Section for Strategic Translational Stem Cell Research and Therapy (TransStem) is focused on the translation of promising basic research results into new strategies and targets for the development of new therapies for cancer and diabetes.

We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious and reliable candidate to join the Ober group focusing on liver development and regeneration.  
 
Job description  
The laboratory technician will be responsible for purchasing and general stock maintenance for the whole group, keeping track of orders, receiving, unpacking deliveries and approving invoices. He/she will maintain our consumable database and will play a major role in tasks ensuring a good working order of the laboratory, in collaboration with other lab members. The candidate will maintain the common zebrafish lines.  
In addition to these tasks, the technician will participate in research projects on an ad hoc basis, in collaboration with PhD students and post-doctoral fellow. These projects will vary with time and will depend on his/her skills and interests as well as the need. These could be related to generating new transgenic or mutant zebrafish lines by genome engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunocytochemistry or tissue sectioning. The successful applicant is expected to learn new laboratory techniques and become able to use them autonomously. The working hours are 37 hours per week.  
 
Qualifications  
• Highly motivated and ambitious candidates are encouraged to apply. The position requires solid previous work experience from an established research laboratory. Skills in several of the following techniques are required: cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology (PCR, cloning), immunocytochemistry, histology, microscopy. Experience in working with zebrafish is advantageous.  
• The position also requires good computer literacy and previous experience working with databases.  
• The applicant should be reliable and well organized. The work requires independence and demands flexibility and accuracy. Further, you must have good interpersonal skills and interest in working in an international team.  
• Knowledge of cell biology, stem cell biology or developmental biology and tissue morphogenesis is an advantage.  
• Good English communication skills, both oral and written, are prerequisite for the successful candidate and Danish is desirable.  
 
Employment conditions  
The employment is scheduled to start July 1, 2017 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate.  
The place of work is at DanStem, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 3B, Copenhagen.  
Terms of appointment and salary are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Government and HK-STAT (Dansk Laborant Forening). The position will be at the level of salary group 4 with the possibility to negotiate due to qualifications and experiences.
