Postdoc in Physical Inorganic Chemistry and Lanthanide Spectrocopy, Nano-Science Center & Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen

One postdoctoral position for up to 4 years is available in the group of Thomas Just Sørensen, Department of Chemistry, Nano-Science Center, University of Copenhagen. The position is open to an ambitious candidate with a curiosity driven approach to chemistry. The candidate should be ready to take a leading role in a dynamic, innovative, and multidisciplinary research group without compromising a demanding individual research project. The position is funded through the Villum Young Investigator Program.

The position is available from 1 October 2017 or soon thereafter.

The Project

The Postdoc will be working on determining structure–property relationships for lanthanide ions and lanthanide complexes in solution using a variety of spectroscopic and scattering techniques. The project will involve developing and benchmarking new techniques, correlating solution structure and electronic properties of f-elements, and developing new applications based on our increased knowledge on lanthanide coordination chemistry.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within lanthanide solution chemistry as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.

Suitable Candidates

The postdoctoral candidate should hold a PhD degree in e.g. chemistry, nanoscience, optical spectroscopy, or related fields. They should have a strong publication record. Candidates with a strong background in physical inorganic chemistry and ligand field theory will be preferred. Experience with physical organic chemistry, Werner’s inorganic chemistry, lanthanide spectroscopy, lanthanide coordination chemistry, direct application of ligand field-theory and f-manifold electronic structure will be particularly relevant for the research project.

The candidate must work actively within an international, cross-disciplinary group of researchers: therefore strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory.
