Associate Professor in Molecular Parasitology and International Health

A 3-year Associate Professorship with the possibility of extension available in the DISCOVERY team at CMP (http://cmp.ku.dk/research/teamdiscovery). The starting date for the position is 1st of May 2018.  
The research in the team is focused on the molecular characterization of the host-parasite interaction mediated by the PfEMP1 and RIFIN proteins of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. The aim is to understand the importance of theses interaction for malaria pathogenesis and immunity and to design a vaccines or adjunct therapy that target and disrupt PfEMP1 and RIFIN functions. The methods used could include real-time quantitative RT-PCR, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, genetic engineering, protein expression, binding inhibition assays, multiplex analysis (Luminex), animal immunizations, culturing and manipulations of malaria parasites and field work in Tanzania. 
Qualifications requirements 
In addition to laboratory-based research in Copenhagen and Tanzania, the Associate Professor is expected to facilitate and supervise clinical placements for final year medical students from University of Copenhagen at hospitals in Tanga region, Tanzania. The clinical exposure is part of the course “International Study Exposure – Health Provision in Tropical Africa” under the Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology (http://kurser.ku.dk/course/smea15075u/2017-2018). This task will require regular trips and placements in Tanzania.    
Furthermore, the Associate Professor is expected to participate in the team’s laboratory training of junior scientists, in our pre- and postgraduate teaching duties, and in our on-going efforts to procure additional funding, as well as participating in the Building Stronger Universities programme at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (Moshi, Tanzania). 
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, teaching qualifications, as well as experience of field work and capacity building in third world countries. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Terms of employment  
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.   
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.
