2 positions in molecular cancer research at BRIC, University of Copenhagen

The Sørensen group at BRIC has 2 open positions for highly motivated researchers with a desire to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and therapy responses.  
Our research/The group  
The goals of the current projects are to understand how familial breast cancers arise as well as identifying weaknesses within malignant cells that can be exploited in the clinic to manage cancer (see the following recent publications, pubmed IDs: 27515922; 27323328; 27113759; 26805514; 25953507). Our group consists of ten dedicated researchers, and we have excellent research facilities in modern laboratories. Project 1, Assistant Professor position  
The project aims to structurally understand the role of new breast cancer factors with focus on how disease-causing variants perturb tumor suppressor functions on a molecular level. The assistant professor will furthermore lead our structural work using a wide range of biophysical and biochemical approaches including NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.  
Project 2, Post doc position  
The project aims to unravel new factors in DNA damage checkpoint control with focus on the S-phase checkpoint. This checkpoint is deficient in many cancers. We have identified new checkpoint factors operating in response to ionizing radiation, and we will now unravel the functional pathways and molecular mechanisms. The experimental focus will be on biochemical and cell biological approaches, including CRISPR-Cas9 modified cell models.  
Start: Preferably March 2018 or after agreement  
Duration: Both projects are for 2 years  
We expect you to be a highly motivated and highly ambitious scientist with the following qualifications:  
• A PhD in Medicine or Life Sciences with focus on cancer biology, cancer genetics, biochemistry or similar  
• Relevant Post doctoral experience (for position 1)  
• A desire to make a difference through highly dedicated research  
• Experimental expertise and substantial knowledge about genome maintenance pathways  
• Excellent English skills written and spoken  
• For project 1: The successful applicant has extensive structural biological experience, as well as experience in cell biology and biochemistry. Extensive experience in protein purification and characterization is a prerequisite. Structural approaches will include: NMR and CD spectroscopy as well as HDX-MS combined with MD simulation.  
• For project 2: The successful applicant has experience in generating and working with CRISPR-Cas9 cell lines as well as documented experimental experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

Terms of salary and employment, and the further process  
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 32,745 DKK/ca. 4,366 Euro plus pension. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.  
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.  
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

The further process  
Shortlist: After expiry of the application deadline, the superior with power to appoint selects a number of applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. Applicants who were not passed for assessment should not expect further with regard to their application unless the shortlist is revised.  
Assessment: The selected applications will be assessed according to the Ministry Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities 2012 and the University of Copenhagen’s guidelines 2013. The Assessment Committee makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the above mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
