Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioinformatics of Bacterial Resistance, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen

A two-year postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Bioinformatics Centre, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. The position will be available from December 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. 
The position is in the group of Professor Anders Krogh. The group is working in computational methods for next-generation sequencing. The postdoc will be working within a project on antibiotic resistance, which is in collaboration with other groups at University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark. The aim of the project is to identify genes that enable development of resistance. 
The postdoc will be expected to participate both in the development of computational tools and in the analysis of data from the experimental partners in the project. As a postdoc you are expected to be able to work fairly independently and to be able to co-supervise Ph.D. and Master’s students. 
For consideration, applicants must: 
  • Have a PhD in bioinformatics, statistics or a similar field 
  • Have demonstrated experience in the analysis of high-throughput DNA Sequencing data 
  • Be experienced with programming in perl, Python, or similar, and be familiar with linux/unix 
  • Have experience in statistics (including R) and probabilistic models 
  • Have published in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals 
Skills of additional interest include: 
  • Experience with genome-wide association studies 
  • Experience with analysis of bacterial genomes 
  • Ability to program in C or C++ 
The working language is English, thus excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills are required.

Salary and terms of employment: 
The successful applicant will be hired as a postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year period. While negotiation for salary supplement is possible, the starting salary level is currently monthly between DKK 32,745 and DKK 34,476  and the possibility of further salary negotiation plus a 17% pension contribution. Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC).

Procedures and shortlisting: 
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant himself/herself. 
The final selection of a successful candidate will be made by the Head of Department, based on the recommendations of the interview committee.  
The main criterion for selection will be the research potential of the applicant and the above mentioned qualifications.
