The Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, advertises one or more positions as Associate Professor of Law or a closely related research areas. The positions include research, teaching – and administrative responsibilities. The positions are available from 1st January 2018 or as soon as possible.  
 
The position  
The Associated Professor’s primary duties include research (publishing/scientific dissemination) and teaching, supervision of graduates- and PhD students, participation in examinations, and administrative tasks in relation to bachelor-, graduate- and PhD studies.  
 
The Associate Professor is expected to publish research in/with internationally highly recognised journals/publishers, interact with relevant parts of the surrounding society, and contribute to the academic development of the research area and related study programmes for the benefit of society and the legal profession. Other obligations may include research leadership, applications for research funding, educational guidance and supervision as well as academic evaluations.  
 
The Associated Professor is obligated to develop and maintain their competences within teaching, education and pedagogic.  
 
Other obligations may be added as stipulated by the Faculty.

The Faculty is in particular looking for applicants with an academic profile within the Faculty’s research- and education areas which are related to the bachelor law programmes’ mandatory courses (see the Faculty’s website: http://studies.ku.dk/bachelor/programmes/). The Faculty is well covered within International Law, Human Rights and Intellectual Property Law. Therefore, further appointments within these areas require that the applicant clearly can establish the ability to contribute to teaching at other mandatory bachelor programme courses than International Law, Human Rights and Intellectual Property Law and that the applicant’s research plan can further develop the Faculty’s research with the specific area.  
 
Required qualifications  
The position requires scientific qualifications equal to those that can be obtained through appointment as an Assistant Professor or equivalent.  
 
The applicant must be able to document scientific qualifications at an international level and have experience with presenting research within the research area at leading international conferences. Experience with development or/and course administration is an advantage.  
 
Further, it is essential that the applicant can document abilities to contribute with research within one or more of the Faculty’s study programmes. Furthermore experience with developing and/or administration of courses or programmes is an advantage.  
 
Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s documented ability with research related to research areas relevant to the Faculty’s research centres and the ability to ensure that the research can benefit students at the faculty’s study programmes.  
 
Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant’s documented ability to participate in collaboration about research and education, experience with attracting and managing research grants and administration of research projects.  
 
Moreover, emphasis will also be placed on the applicant’s experience with teaching and pedagogical qualifications, which can be obtained through appointment as an Assistant Professor or equivalent.  
 
If the candidate(s) chosen for the position has/have not yet participated in a pedagogical course for Assistant Professors including a written assessment and supervision of the candidate's teaching, the appointment might be conditioned on a trial period of up to 18 months until the required course has been completed.  
 
The position is permanent and therefore the Faculty expects that applicants over time acquire skills in Danish suffient to teach in Danish. The Faculty actively encourages and supports academic staff with little or no knowledge of written and oral Danish (or another Scandinavian language) in the effort to acquire skills in Danish.

Salary and terms of employment  
The appointment is permanent and will be made in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikernes Centralorganisation, AC). In addition to the basic salary you will receive an annual supplement of DKK. 92.881, 94 (as of April 1, 2017). In addition to this, a total contribution to your pension fund equal to 17.1% of your salary and annual supplement is paid.  
 
Application  
Letter of motivation, appendixes and the submitted scientific publications, incl. papers, articles and books, must be written in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian or English.  
 
The application MUST include the following 8 elements:  
 
1. Application / letter of motivation  
 
2. Curriculum vitae  
 
3. Diplomas. Documentation of qualifications (degrees/diplomas, etc.)  
 
4. Publications list. Complete numbered list of publications.  
 
5. Teaching portfolio. This must include documentation for teaching qualifications as well as a brief statement of the applicant's teaching visions within the research area. For more information regarding teaching portfolio, applicants are encouraged to read the University guidelines for teaching portfolios when appointing academic staff at the University of Copenhagen.  
 
6. Research plan. An outline of planned research activities, including publications plans and plans for applications for external funding. The plan also documents the applicant’s skills to contribute to research in one or more of the Faculty's research centres and environments, including how research can benefit the students in one or more of the Faculty's programmes.  
 
7. Publications. A maximum of five (5) scientific publications that the applicant wishes to have included in the assessment, of which no more than two (2) may be monographs. Applicants, who have written a PhD thesis or equivalent must always submit the complete thesis and the written assessment of the thesis as a part of submitted publications if the thesis is written in one of the languages mentioned below. A PhD thesis written in another language may be submitted, but the Assessment Committee is not required to assess the thesis. The submitted research publications must be written in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian or English  
 
8. Co-author declaration. If citing work where the applicant has been a co-author, a co-author declaration, which addresses the applicant's share of these works, must be submitted. Material that has not yet published can be submitted. However, please indicate if this is the case.  
 
In addition to the material, which the applicant wishes to include in the assessment, the Assessment Committee may require further material for the assessment of the applicant. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide such supplementary material should this be requested.  
 
Application procedure  
The application, appendixes and the submitted scientific publications MUST be uploaded electronically using the link below. We advise you to have the above mentioned documents ready before you begin to fill out your online application, and it is essential that all required documents are enclosed.  
 
We will not accept submitted scientific publications by ordinary post.  
 
Applications must be addressed to the Dean and uploaded electronically.  
 
An automatically generated message is sent out acknowledging receipt of the uploaded application.  
 
Applicants will be kept informed about the process of the application procedure on a regular basis via email.  
 
Following the application deadline, the Dean selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. Applicants are selected on the basis of an overall assessment of the applicants that best match the recruitment needs of the Faculty as described in this advertisement for the post. This is compared with the applicant's research and teaching profile as set out in the application, CV incl. list of publication, teaching portfolio and any research/development plan. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert Assessment Committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and when the committee has completed its assessment, each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicants themselves.
