Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Plant Biochemistry, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen

We invite applications for a 2.5 year Postdoctoral position at the Plant Biochemistry Laboratory, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The position is funded by a grant from The Danish Council for Independent Research, Technology and Production Sciences. Commencement will be 1 November 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Triterpenoids constitute a structurally diverse class of natural plant defense compounds, which are wide spread across the plant kingdom, and appear to have evolved recurrently through evolution.  The position is focused on pathway elucidation of triterpenoids and in development of in planta production systems using hairy roots. The project is directed principally by Professor Søren Bak (bak@plen.ku.dk) and secondarily by Associate Professor Sotirios Kampranis (soka@plen.ku.dk). A PhD position will be filled on the same grant working on reconstruction of triterpenoids biosynthesis in yeast.

We are seeking a motivated, creative and independent Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will join a vibrant international research environment at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, and will be integrated members of the “Triterpenoid” and “Biochemical Engineering” research groups at the Section for Plant Biochemistry. The Section is also part of the Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (http://cpsc.ku.dk/).

Skills and experience required or highly desired for the position:
Hold a PhD in an appropriate subject (e.g plant biochemistry, plant physiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics).
- Broad curiosity in biological questions and open-mindedness to cross-disciplinary research.
- Knowledge of plant specialized metabolism with special focus on terpenoids and preferentially triterpenoids
- Theoretical and hands-on expertise in molecular biology and plant biochemistry, particularly with skills in pathway discovery and heterologous expression.
- Theoretical and hands-on expertise in bioinformatics, preferentially within molecular phylogeny and in handling transcriptomic and genomics datasets.
- Interest in and skills in working with plant organ cultures
- Enthusiasm and good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work and collaborate with others, including the supervision and mentoring of postgraduate students.
- Ability to work independently and see projects through to completion.
