Research Assistants at Department of Food and Resource Economics

Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for three Research Assistants from 14 September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Research Assistants will be affiliated to the Section of Production, Markets or Policies and the Section for Environment and Natural Resources. One of the positions is time limited for one year. The two other positions are time limited for two years.

Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) is a university department embracing economics, law, sociology and ethics as they bear upon basic, applied and business-oriented social science and humanities research. As Denmark’s only university department in economics specializing in food and natural resources, IFRO is naturally based in the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. This strengthens interaction between IFRO’s social science approach, on the one hand, and the life sciences and health sciences, on the other. Strong multidisciplinary research alliances are created in the process. Apart from research, the department provides research-based teaching, public sector services, the dissemination of knowledge and business partnerships. The department has approximately 160 employees.

The Department contains four research units and the Research Assistants will become part of the Section of Production, Markets and Policies or the Section for Environment and Natural Resources.

The research assistants’ duties will include assistance in advisory work, research and teaching.

Qualifications - selection criteria Applicants must have an academic degree. Qualifications within the following scientific areas are required:

An MSc in agricultural economics, environmental economics or a similar social science degree.

Interest for both theoretical and empirical economics

Insight in applied agricultural economics, environmental economics and bio-economics

Inter-disciplinary teamwork experience

Interest for public sector consultancy

Fluent in Danish and good language skills in English.

The research assistant is also required to be enterprising, flexible, structured, and to possess good interpersonal skills. The work is organized in projects and may be subject to tight deadlines. It will be considered an advantage if the applicant has experience with advisory work and knowledge of the Danish agricultural sector and its economic performance.

Terms of employment
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure. Applications will be assessed according to the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 1039 of 27 August 2013.
