Associate Professorship(s) in Political Science

We invite applications for one or more positions as Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen. 
The positions are available from 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are sought from eminent candidates, who can enhance the Department’s research, education and societal impact in any field of specialization in Political Science, including public administration and international relations. Job Description 
General duties attached to the position as Associate Professor are: 
•Research within the field of Political Science
•Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate, post-graduate  and Ph.D students
•Administrative tasks related to the position as associate professor 
•Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society
•Research and teaching management
Emphasis will be put on the applicant’s ability to contribute to the intellectual life of the Department through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in high quality teaching, disseminate knowledge and make a knowledge-based societal impact as well as take an active part in the management of the Department, as e.g. course coordinator or member of a committee. An associate professor should also be able to attract funding within his or her specialist area.
Essential Qualifications
Appointment as Associate Professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment at the level of assistant professor or equivalent. 
•A proven record of outstanding research, as evidenced by an established international reputation in Political Science or a relevant subfield as well as a track record of publishing in top journals and/or a highly influential publication record with leading book publishers. 
•A significant track record of excellence in teaching in one or more of the main areas covered by the Department. The Department prefers candidates, who can cover more than one of the main courses taught at BA level. 
•A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that will result in further world-leading publications as well as a commitment to innovate teaching.
•Track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community and the commitment to contribute to a vibrant work environment.
Desirable Qualifications
•The ability and willingness to attract external research funding.
•A commitment to share insights and knowledge in the public debate, to take societal responsibility, and a track record of making a conceptual, instrumental, as well as capacity building impact in Denmark as well as in an international context.
•An experience with or commitment to teaching which gives students real-life competences as well as the ability to critically reflect on the world and its problems.
The Department
The Department of Political Science has 1,800 students in its BA and MA programmes in Political Science as well as the MA in Social Sciences and MA in Security Risk Management programmes. The department consists of 76 researchers and 41 PhD students, and there are 20 administrative staff. The Department is one of the top-ranked European political science departments. Conditions of employment 
Terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary as Associate Professor is about DDK 450,000 (EUR 59.500 app.). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. •A complete and numbered list of publications. The publications enclosed in the application – maximum 6 - that the applicant would like the assessment committee to consider should be marked with an asterisk (*).
•Teaching portfolio in accordance with the Faculty’s rules:
• Documentation of the ability to disseminate information to and share knowledge with society (if available).
If publications marked by an asterisk (*) are the result of a joint effort, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual work must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed as well. 
Application procedure 
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, applicants are selected for assessment on the advice of the Appointment Committee. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
