Post-doctoral position in human-computer interaction at the University of Copenhagen
The position is associated with the project Body-UI, awarded by the European Research Council for five years to Kasper Hornbæk (www.kasperhornbaek.dk). The project combines results and methods from research on embodied cognition with recent advances in technologies for body-based UIs. We seek to understand how using the body to control computers changes the way users think and to demonstrate body-based user interfaces that offer new and better forms of interaction with computers.
The position is 2.5 years full-time positions in the Section on Human-centered Computing at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen (www.di.ku.dk).
Why do a PostDoc at University of Copenhagen?

Our section aspires to be a top research environment for human-computer interaction that bridges technology, theory, and empirical studies: we had eight papers at CHI 2016 (2 best papers) and five papers at CHI 2017 (1 best paper).
- Ph.D. (or soon-to-be Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Human-computer Interaction, Psychology, Affective Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
(a) skills in body-based user interfaces (e.g., on-body touch, computer vision, mid-air gestures, augmented reality, virtual reality, motion-tracking, proxemics interaction)
(b) skills in embodied cognition (e.g., documented in work on affect, memory, agency, body image)
- Publications in top venues (could be CHI, UIST, TOCHI; or journals on embodied cognition)
Terms of employment
The position is open from August 1st 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for 2.5 years and is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Currently, the monthly salary starts at 32.332 DKK/approx. 4.250 Euro plus pension. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.

Submission of application

- Letter of motivation (max. one page)
- Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications
- Three publications enclosed in full text for evaluation
- Research statement (max. two pages): what research do you imagine you will do
- At least three references (either as letters or full contact details)
- Assessment of PhD thesis (provisional or final)
- A copy of the PhD diploma (if available).
After the application deadline, the Head of Department selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointment Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been accepted for assessment. The Dean subsequently appoints an expert assessment committee tasked with carrying out an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee. Applicants are ultimately offered the opportunity of commenting on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalized.
