Associate Professor of Veterinary Parasitology, 3 year position

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Veterinary Parasitology with emphasis on helminths of pigs and poultry to the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to commence 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible.

Job description 
The subject area is veterinary parasitology with emphasis on host-parasite-diet interactions and control of pig and poultry helminths. Duties of the position include research in this area, dissemination of the scientific results to a broad audience, and teaching of pre- and post-graduate students. As the post is mainly financed by research projects (Parasites and gut health, Seaweed and parasites), the job will include coordination and planned research within these projects. Some diagnostic work within livestock and companion animal parasitology may be included. 
 
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of: 
 
• Research, including publication/academic dissemination  
• Research-based teaching, including associated examination 
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers  
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate  
• Academic assessments  
• Management and coordination of research projects  
 
Required qualifications  
Applicants must have an academic degree within veterinary medicine or another relevant biological discipline. Applicants should have documented research experience within helminthology of mainly pigs and poultry, at the highest international level. Experience with on-farm studies with pigs and the use of pigs and poultry as experimental animals is needed.  
 
Further, the appointee is required to have: 
 
• Teaching qualifications such as an associate professor or equivalent within the subject area 
• Skills within diagnostics of helminths of veterinary importance 
• Ability to obtain research funding 
• Experience with management of cross border collaboration between university and private sector  
 
The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills. 
 
Terms of employment  
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.

The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post.
