Type 2 Diabetes is growing at pandemic rates worldwide, reflecting a synergic interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Epigenetics refers to heritable states of gene expression that are not due to changes in DNA sequence. Two major epigenetic processes, DNA methylation and histone modifications, form the molecular basis of epigenetics, principally by modulating the access of the transcription machinery to the chromatin. Previously, we showed that environmental factors such as diet participate in the etiology of T2D through epigenetic modifications in somatic tissues. The molecular mechanisms involved are yet to be identified.
We are seeking a motivated and skilled laboratory technician to run sequencing pipelines related to epigenetic analyses. The position is a 1-year, fixed-time position for covering part of the work of an Academic Officer on maternity leave. The start date is the 1st of May 2018.
