Department of Physics, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in theoretical condensed matter physics commencing June 1st, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The project is embedded in the Center for Quantum Devices (QDev) at the Niels Bohr Institute, a basic research center comprising materials research, experimental physics, nanoelectronics and condensed matter theory. The full research program for this center of excellence, funded by funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, can be found on the QDev homepage: The position will also be rooted in the broader Condensed Matter Theory group (, at the Niels Bohr Institute.
Project description
The research project deals with theoretical investigations of sub-gap states in superconducting junctions based on quantum dots and wires as well as in semiconductor/ superconductor /magnet hybrid devices. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with the experimental activities in the Center for Quantum Devices and aims at a better understanding of transport through spin-induced Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states and Andreev bound states in general, including possible relaxation mechanisms. The successful candidate must have a strong background in theoretical many-body physics and quantum transport theory.
