PhD fellow in Organic chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in organic chemistry commencing 01.01.2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The PhD project is part of a research program funded by The Danish Research Council (FNU) as a part of their Sapere Aude program in the group of Assoc. Prof. Michael Pittelkow.
Projects carried out in the research group are largely hypothesis and curiosity driven and employs the principles of chemistry to address questions of importance in chemistry, biology and materials science.
PhD students in the group are expected to significantly influence the directions of the research project undertaken. The main tools used in our research are synthetic organic chemistry and a number of spectroscopic techniques. We often collaborate with crystallographers, computational chemist and other specialists.
A degree obtained here will leave you well equipped for a career in a wide array of academic positions, the pharmaceutical industry and in the chemical industry in general.
Project description
The work will be experimental, applying and developing state of the synthetic tools and modern analytical methods. The projects are at the borderline of synthetic organic chemistry, physical-organic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry (in water) with the aim of solving challenges in bioorganic chemistry and chemical biology.
The project will use a combination of molecular design and dynamic combinatorial chemistry to enable the molecular recognition of complex peptide- and protein substrates in water. A special focus will be on developing novel strategies to covalently and non-covalently chemically modify peptides and proteins.
Principal supervisor is Assoc. Prof. Michael Pittelkow, Department of Chemistry,,
