Call for students assistants for the project; “The Role of Administrative Networks in European Union Implementation”

Dorte Sindbjerg Martinsen is hiring student assistants for the project ”The Role of Administrative Networks in European Union Implementation”. The research project runs for 4 years (2017-2021) and is financed by the Danish Research Council.
The research project aims to analyze the establishment, functioning, interaction and impact of European Administrative Networks with tasks in the realm of the implementation and enforcement of EU policies. The project defines European Administrative Networks (EANs) as networks of national administrative representatives. Most of the existing literature relies on a positive narrative of EANs’ problem-solving abilities, finding they fulfill an important role in facilitating the implementation and enforcement of EU policies. However, their actual and independent role in carrying out these functions is not yet well understood nor explained. This project addresses a three-fold research gap in the literature, by asking: How do the functions, interaction modes and impact of European Administrative Networks differ across policy areas? The role of EANs in EU implementation will be examined and compared for five policy areas; 1) health care, 2) welfare, 3) environment, 4) immigration and asylum and 5) internal market.
The first task for the research assistants will be to assist on the mapping of administrative networks across the five policy areas and over time. The mapping will be done on basis of relevant databases, interviews with key respondents, etc. Thereafter you will assist on coding the material and other more analytical work will follow. Besides Dorte Sindbjerg Martinsen the research team consists of Ellen Mastenbroek from Radboud University in the Netherlands, a post-doc (to be hired) and 1-2 other student assistants.
