Pilot plant manager

The Department of Food Science, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Pilot Plant Manager from 1st December 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for two years with the possibility for permanent employment.  
 
The Department of Food Science is recognized for excellence in food research, education, and industrial collaboration. The Department's research areas share the mission to contribute with new solutions for society and industry to support sustainable food production, food security and safety as well as production of high quality food promoting human health and wellbeing. The Department is an international workplace with English as primary working language. The Pilot Plant Manager will be part of the Section for Ingredients and Dairy Technology, which conducts basic and applied inter-disciplinary research in close collaboration with industry and actively contributes to teaching at the BSc in Food Science and the MSc in Food Science and Technology.
 
We seek a candidate to manage and operate our Pilot Plant facilities within Dairy, Brewing, and Plant processing. The pilot plant facilities are used for research and teaching, and the appointed candidate is expected to take part in coordinating and planning the use of the facilities as well as provide practical, introduction, instruction and support to researchers and students in Dairy, Brewing, and Plant processing. The successful candidate should have a strong technical background and experience with day-to-day operation of pilot plants and should be able to undertake basic maintenance and troubleshooting. The appointed candidate is expected to participate in various research projects and teaching activities and will collaborate with researchers, teachers, students and external partners.  
 
The candidates’ background can be within food, dairy, brewing or plant science. 
 
Qualifications in the following areas are required and should be described: 
  • Bachelor or Master within process technology or process engineering or similar background within food technology 
  • Operational experience of running a pilot plant and CIP procedures 
  • Knowledge of hygiene and quality requirements for food grade production  
  • A collaborative and innovative mindset with a good ability to manage and support activities of multiple pilot plant users. 
The successful candidate will be part of an internationally oriented and enthusiastic Section currently consisting of three full professors, 10 associate professors, 13 assistant professors and post docs and more than 15 PhD candidates as well as highly skilled laboratory technicians. The section has at its disposal various pilot plant facilities and advanced analytical infrastructure.
