PhD Scholarship within “Personalized dietary management of obesity”

Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in the section for Obesity Research commencing 1st December 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The unit for obesity research undertakes basic and clinical research to investigate how appetite and energy metabolism is regulated, with the ultimate goal to improve our ability to prevent and treat obesity and related diseases, such as type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The research group investigates the effects of diets, physical activity pattern, sleep, stress, gastric bypass, gut microbiota, genetics and medicines on energy balance in individuals who are normal-weight, overweight or obese with/without metabolic complications both in short-term and long-term intervention studies as well as observational studies (
Project description
The title of the PhD-project is “Personalized dietary management of obesity”. The primary aim of the project will be to identify new biomarkers as well as validate newly discovered biomarkers that modify the relationship between dietary intake and overweight/obesity. Examples of such newly discovered biomarkers are fasting blood glucose ( and microbiota composition ( This should primarily be done by statistically re-examining observational studies as well as randomized clinical studies that have already been conducted. Therefore, the research project of the Phd-student is mainly focused on statistical analysis from several different human studies and previous work experience related to data handling and analysis (during education and/or work outside academia) is of importance when evaluating qualifications for this PhD-position.
