Associate Professor in Transport biology of specialized metabolites and phytohormones

The advertisement is for a permanent position as Associate Professor in ‘Transport biology of specialized metabolites and phytohormones’ within the area of Plant Molecular Biology.
 
The successful candidate will be part of the DNRF DynaMo Center of Excellence and is expected to contribute to the center’s activities in research, teaching, and outreach as well as be a member of the center board. 
 
Research and outreach 
Candidates who want to apply for this position have an internationally recognized research record in transport biology. Moreover, candidates should possess competencies in biophysical and biochemical characterization of transporter proteins, structure function analysis and in analysis of in planta investigation of transport processes. The research is expected to have the potential for collaborations on future challenges in plant sciences like improving plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses as well as in developing research-based teaching. 
 
The position within plant transport biology includes research on signaling by hormones and other cues as well as identification of transporters responsible for transporting the molecules within the plant both for short and long distances in order to coordinate various processes such as growth and defense.  
 
The position is expected to bridge basic and applied research, resulting in collaborations within academia as well as industry. 
 
Teaching  
The candidate is expected to participate in teaching in and developing of relevant courses of the department. The candidate will furthermore provide guidance of students at the BSc, MSc and PhD level. 
 
Funding 
It will become the responsibility of the candidate to target funding sources in Denmark. Prior experience with international grant applications, including project development and consortium coordination will be considered relevant competencies. 
 
Key candidate selection criteria 
Relevant applicants will be able to document competencies in most of the following areas: 
  • Biochemical characterization of transport proteins 
  • Transport engineering in synthetic biology in academic and in industrial settings  
  • Transport engineering in agriculture in academic and in industrial settings  
  • Use of mutants and transformants as tools for studying the in planta role of transporters. 
  • Genetic transformation of algae and plants 
  • Teaching experience within the research area. 
  • Management experience 
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training program for Assistant Professors is required.  
 
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.  
 
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered. 
 
Place of employment and work  
DynaMo Center is hosted by the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PLEN), Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. PLEN carries out internationally recognized basic and applied research and trains candidates in in biology and environmental science. The focus is on plants, microorganisms, animals and the environment as a basis for sustainable production of food and other biological products. Research and teaching cover natural resources, agriculture, biotechnology and synthetic biology from the molecular level to the ecosystem scale.
 
PLEN is well equipped for the research proposed in this call. This includes modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within advanced bioimaging, nano-biotechnology, metabolite profiling, protein biochemistry, molecular genetics as well as plant growth facilities and climate chambers. English is the working language at the Center.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
 
Commencing salary is currently up to DKK 455,206 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 77,840) 
 
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
