PhD stipend in protein kinase A regulation

A time-limited 3-year PhD position at Section for Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, Center for Neuroscience is availble as soon as possible. The aim of the project is to investigate the role of PICK1 and novel natural compound to regulate PKA activity and function in cells and tissue.


The PhD student will study have the interaction with PICK1, recently identified in the group, regulate the activity and function of PKA in HEK293 cells as well as in synaptic plasticity in hippocampus and dense core vesicle biogenesis in endocrine tissue. Furthermore the project will aim to characterize newly discovered diterpenoids (similar to foskolin) from natural sources and direct/validate production through synthetic biology.


The studies will among others involve pharmacological assays, live microscopy of FRET based biosensors, ex vivo biochemical analyses as well as eletrophysiological charaterization and in vivo studies of knock in mice.


In connection with the appointment to the post, special importance will be attached to the applicant having the following professional and personal qualifications:


  • A Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, human biology or in an equivalent area, preferable from an internationally recognized university.
  • Experience with molecular biology
  • Experience with pharmacological assays
  • Experience with confocal live microscopy and immunostainings
  • Experience with ex vivo biochemistry (phosphor-assays and Co-IP)
  • Experience with in vivo mouse models
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral englis

The position is offered for a period of three years and employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). In addition to research activities, the PhD candidate will be expected – during the period of the stipend – to acquire experience in teaching and/or other types of presentations.
