PhD stipend in monoamine disease biology

A time-limited 3-year PhD position at Section for Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, Center for Neuroscience is available as soon as possible. The aim of the project is to investigate the role of genetic variation in neurotransmitter:sodium symporters (NSSs) for neuropsychiatric diseases.


The PhD student will work with molecular and cellular characterization of rare genetic variants identified in neurotransmitter:sodium symporters (NSSs) in a larger cohort of patients suffering from diverse neuropsychiatric diseases. The studies will among others involve pharmacological assays, biochemical analyses and confocal imaging, and possibly in vivo studies using viral expression techniques.


In connection with the appointment to the post, special importance will be attached to the applicant having the following professional and personal qualifications:


  • A Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, human biology or in an equivalent area
  • Experience with molecular biology
  • Experience with pharmacological assays relevant to neurotransmitter transport proteins (uptake and binding assays)
  • Experience with confocal microscopy and immunostainings
  • Experience with in vivo mouse models
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

The position is offered for a period of three years and employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). In addition to research activities, the PhD candidate will be expected – during the period of the stipend – to acquire experience in teaching and/or other types of presentations.
